News Release

(Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011) – The Rochester Public Market, 280 N. Union St., will fill with holiday spirit during the 15th annual Holidays at the Market scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 4, 11 and 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Enjoy a day of sleigh rides, Santa and shopping for unique gifts from around the world, locally-grown produce, specialty foods and holiday decorations during this seasonal community tradition.

Holidays at the Market boasts the largest selection of fresh cut trees, wreaths, garlands and swags in western New York. Choose from an array of party supplies, fresh bouquets and table decorations in an historic cobblestone setting. Locally-produced wine makes a perfect hostess gift. A diverse selection of one-of-a-kind handcrafted gifts ranging from alpaca gloves and hats to wooden toys adds to this unique shopping alternative.

Public Market gift tokens — accepted by over 100 Market vendors — may now be purchased at the Market office. Tokens make a great stocking stuffer and are a unique gift for the hard-to-please friend or relative. Market-branded items — such as canvas tote bags and the just-published Public Market Cookbook — will be for sale by the Friends of the Public Market (www.marketfriends.org). Enjoy the flavor of the holidays with homemade baked goods and ethnic delicacies, while waiting for a free horse-drawn sleigh ride.

Santa will greet children from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free cookie decorating and other interactive activities will also entertain children 12 and under each Sunday.

The highly competitive Holiday Cookie Baking Contest returns this year — with amateur and professional categories. Entry forms are available at the Market Office. Bakers may bring one dozen of their best cookies to the Market Office on Saturday, Dec. 17 or by 12 noon, Sunday, Dec. 18.

Vending spaces are $40 for a single Sunday or $80 for all three Sundays. Call the Market Office at 428-6907, Tuesday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. for more information, or log on to www.cityofrochester.gov/holidaysatmarket/. For general information about the Market, go to www.cityofrochester.gov/publicmarket.

In December, the Market will be open on Saturday, December 24 from 6 a.m. – 1 p.m. Holiday and regular shoppers should arrive early for the best selection on Tuesday, Dec. 20 and Thursday, Dec. 22 from 6 a.m.– 1 p.m.
