(Thursday, June 5, 2014) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren is joining the Genesee Land Trust and Project HOPE to extend an invitation for families to enjoy the inaugural Northeast Family Fitness 5K Fitness Walk at El Camino on National Trails Day, Saturday, June 7.

Individuals can participate in the walk on the El Camino Trail for $5 and families can walk together for $10. The walk begins and ends at Conkey Corner Park, at the corner of Clifford and Conkey Avenues.

On-site registration begins at 8 a.m. The walk begins at 10 a.m. with an event kickoff featuring remarks by city officials including Department of Recreation and Youth Services Commissioner, Marisol Ramos-Lopez and Northeast District Councilmember Michael Patterson.

Participants should meet at the corner of Conkey and Clifford Avenues. Proceeds from this event will benefit The Conkey Cruisers, an exercise club that uses bicycling to get neighbors moving towards a more active healthy lifestyle.

“Conkey Corner Park and the El Camino Trail have grown to become a spectacular source of pride for the neighborhoods that surround the,” said Mayor Warren. “I am honored to partner with the Genesee Land Trust and Project HOPE to put these beautiful assets to work for the community by promoting the benefits of exercise and healthy living.”

Registered participants will walk the El Camino rail at their own pace while being cheered on by an array of musicians and dancers. The walk will be followed by a free lunch at noon.
