(Monday, May 24, 2021) – The City of Rochester met or exceeded all federal and state drinking water standards, according to the annual water quality report required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The City of Rochester’s 2020 Water Quality Report can be found at online at www.cityofrochester.gov/waterquality and in City branch libraries or Neighborhood Service Centers.
The EPA requires all water utilities to produce and distribute water quality reports on an annual basis. In 2020, the City met or exceeded all of the drinking water standards set by the EPA and the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH).
The City of Rochester Water Bureau provides water to 210,000 people and many businesses located within the City of Rochester. In addition, the City partners with the Livingston County Water and Sewer Authority; Monroe County Water Authority; and the Village and Town of Lima to provide water to some of their service areas.
In 2020, the City continued its commitment to water quality through its involvement with the Partnership for Safe Water. The goal of this voluntary American Water Works Association (AWWA) and EPA program is to help water utilities optimize strategies to provide consumers with quality water that exceeds what current regulations require. 2020 marked the 19th year in a row that the Hemlock Filtration Plant earned the Partnership’s “Director’s Award for Filtration Plants.” Also in 2021 the Water Bureau was recognized in a proclamation by Mayor Warren for delivering high quality Hemlock Lake water to City residents for 145 years.
