(Friday, May 12, 2023) – Mayor Malik D. Evans announced today that the City of Rochester is
partnering with a broad assortment of community agencies to host three
workforce development resource fairs and expos next week.
“The Rochester
community is answering the call to establish critical connections among our
residents, employers, and training programs that open doors to the world of
work for young people, and life-long careers for adults,” said Mayor Evans.
“This is the epitome of ‘we not me’ and I could not be more grateful for these
partners who are helping to provide our residents with economic empowerment opportunities
and generational wealth. This is the kind of collaboration that inspires hope
and delivers opportunity for everyone.”
On Wednesday, May 17: The Office of Violence Prevention is working with the Rochester City
School District and AFSCME Council 66 to host the Apprenticeship and Career
Fair from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the David F. Gantt R-Center (700 North St.).
The fair will
feature about 25 organizations including local labor unions, union employers,
and workforce development agencies. Participants will learn about hundreds of
job openings that pay union wages and training programs to earn union
apprenticeships.
On Friday, May 19: The City’s Minority and Women Business Enterprise team is working with a
collaborative of workforce development agencies to host the Skilled Trade
Training Information Expo from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Monroe Community College Downtown Campus (321
State St., 5th Floor). Participants will
meet representatives of agencies that offer training programs to enter the
skilled trades, including community colleges, the Urban League, and OACES. The
expo is among the recommendations of the Commission on Racial and Structural
Equity and seeks to expand the minority and women skilled-trade workforce to

On Saturday, May 20: The Department of Recreation and Youth Services is working with
RochesterWorks and legislators from the New York State Assembly and Monroe
County Legislature to host the second annual Youth Job and Resource Fair for
youth and young adults ages 15 to 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at East High School (1801 E. Main St.) from .
Participants will
meet with employers to learn about job openings and career-path opportunities,
and meet representatives of workforce development agencies. Parents, guardians,
and mentors are encouraged to attend. The co-sponsor legislators are:
Assemblymembers Sarah Clark and Demond Meeks, and County Legislators Ricky
Frazier and William Burgess.
