2016 Event Schedule

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month each year, Mayor Lovely A. Warren and the City’s Hispanic Heritage Committee host a month-long program of events to celebrate the generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched the Rochester community.

ROC the Park Latino Family Night
• Saturday, July 23, 6-10 p.m.
• Martin Luther King Park, 353 Court Street

Be a part of the first ever “Latino Family Night” in the ROC the Park concert series! Enjoy live Spanish music and delicious food with Rochester’s Hispanic community.

Musical Line-up:
o Luis Carrión Trio/ Tribute to Pedro Núñez ( Música Jibara)
o DJ Johnny Mambo ( Dj throughout the event in between acts)
o Sammy Pressure ( Merenton, Reggaeton)
o Latinos De Corazón ( Folkloric Dance)
o Afrikando ( Latin cover Band playing Salsa, Reggaeton, Merengue and Bachata)
o Next Level ( Bachata, Merengue, Salsa)

Latino Golf Tournament
• Saturday, September 10, 12-6 p.m.
• Braemar Country Club, 4704 Ridge Road West, Spencerport, NY

What could be better than a day on the golf course for a good cause? Join us for an exciting 18-hole tournament! Lunch, prizes and a Delmonico steak dinner are included. Proceeds will benefit the Latino Scholarship Fund and HHM events.

Art Link Gallery
• Tuesday, September 13-October 24th, 5 p.m.

View unique and eclectic art created by local artists. The exhibit is inspired by Hispanic Heritage Month and is expected to lure art lovers from all over Rochester!

Hispanic Heritage Month Kick-Off Ceremony
• Thursday, September 15, 5-7 p.m.
• City Hall Atrium, 30 Church St.


Celebrate the official beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month with City officials and members of the community. The event will feature a Latin flag display, a Proclamation from the City of Rochester and lots of Spanish refreshments and music.

Youth Theatre Night @R-Centers
• Friday, September 23, 6-8:30 p.m.
• David Gantt Recreation Center, 700 North St.

Who can resist a lively night of Latin Theatre and storytelling? Celebrate Hispanic culture with unique performances and creative narratives. Refreshments and delicious Latin pastries will be provided.

Celebrating the Golden Years
• Thursday, September 29, 6-8:30 p.m.
• Edgerton Community Center, Stardust Ballroom, 41 Backus St.

Our grandparents deserve to be honored and appreciated! Join us in recognizing our “Abuelitos” for the sacrifice, wisdom and unconditional love they have shown us. Enjoy live music, Spanish cuisine and the crowning of the 2016 Abuelito and Abuelita of the year!

Youth Gala and Cultural Expression
• Friday, October 7, 6-8 p.m.
• MLK Lodge, 353 Court St.


This is a perfect opportunity for Rochester’s Latino youth to gather and celebrate our culture while enjoying a formal dinner.

5th Annual Latino Student College Fair
• Saturday, October 8, 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. 
• MLK Lodge, 353 Court St.

High School students will have the opportunity to interact with College representatives from all over the region. Students may participate in informational panels and the HHM committee will present the winner of the Dr. Emeterio M. Otero-Academic and Community Excellence award. Lunch will be provided.

Rise Up Latinos! Event “Strengthening Relationships”
• Saturday, October 15, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
• Port of Rochester, 1000 N. River St.

Now a “Co-Ed” celebration, this event is geared to empower men and women through-out the community. Come and listen to inspiring guest speakers and visit informational booths. Information about domestic violence, health, education and grooming tips will be available. Participants will receive gift bags and lunch will be provided.

Noche de Orgullo Latino
• Saturday, October 29, 5:30-11 p.m.
• Riverside Convention Center, 123 E. Main St.

On our most prestigious night, Rochestarians of all ethnicities will gather to celebrate the end of Hispanic Heritage Month. Enjoy an elegant sit-down dinner and dance the night away with the sounds from a live Latin band!
