Lake Ontario, the Genesee River and the Erie Canal connect Rochester to the world.

The Genesee River, with its three waterfalls within the city limits, was the original source of power and commerce of the "Flour City" and is now a favorite spot for small boaters, fishing enthusiasts and hikers. Developments along the river include hotels, restaurants, retail outlets and office spaces, which are becoming new landmarks of our Genesee Riverway Trail. The Erie Canal played an important role in Rochester’s development as America's first boom town and now feeds a growing tourism industry. Developments at the Port of Rochester on Lake Ontario promise to help Rochester become the newest coastal community and nautical destination on the Great Lakes.
