What is 311?

311 is a resource for residents, businesses, and visitors to get information, request services, and report problems within the City of Rochester. From getting library hours, requesting trash pick or street repairs, and report problems like potholes or graffiti. 311 is ready to help.  You can reach us by calling 311 or visiting our 311 Live site.

How to reach us?

Within the Rochester city limits area, you can dial 311. People reporting issues within the City of Rochester but are calling outside the Rochester city limits can reach a 311 customer service representative by calling 585-428-5990.  We are open Monday–Friday 7 a.m. - 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. We are open every day except New Year's Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

When do I use 311, and when do I use 911?

The 911 service is for emergencies, such as house fires and crimes in progress that require an immediate response by police, fire crews, or an ambulance. For all other city services, dial 311.

Will 311 operators be able to respond in other languages?

If you speak a language that our 311 staff can not, don't worry.  We value your communication and a third-party translation service will join the call to ensure you are understood and, your needs are met.

Will 311 Agents be able to respond to calls from hearing-impaired individuals?

We suggest these individuals use NYS Relay to reach us. NYS Relay can be reached by dialing 711.
