CITY COUNCIL SEEKS COMMUNITY INPUT
REGARDING POLICE ACCOUNTABILITY BOARD
Rochester
City Council is conducting a Citywide Public Outreach Survey to engage with our
neighbors and gain a deeper understanding of the community’s perception of the Police
Accountability Board (PAB).
Additionally, City Council will be meeting with citizens and community
groups throughout this process.
The PAB was
approved in 2019 after Rochester City Council placed a referendum before the
people of Rochester. Voters
overwhelmingly approved its creation through that referendum. The Inaugural PAB Board was appointed on
January 21, 2020. The primary function
of the PAB is to ensure public accountability and transparency over the powers
exercised by sworn officers of the RPD. However,
since its inception the PAB has faced many internal obstacles which have
hindered the agency’s ability to carry out its mission.
The survey is offered in both digital
and print forms, with the intent of
seeking input from a diverse cross-section of the community. Physical copies of the survey are available
at City library branches, and some hair salons and barbershops throughout the
community.
The survey is
available at this link.
City Council
will draw on this community input for any actionable steps it may take to
improve the PAB in the future.
