Division of Environmental Quality

The Division of Environmental Quality (DEQ) supports the City of Rochester’s Values and Guiding Principles by providing efficient, high quality environmental compliance and pollution prevention, brownfield investigation, cleanup and redevelopment, and energy, climate and sustainability planning for the City of Rochester and the public.

These services meet legal and regulatory requirements for City facilities, abate and prevent environmental problems, leverage outside funding sources, respond to energy and climate challenges, encourage sustainable redevelopment and improve property valuations in order to protect, preserve and enhance the natural and built environment of the City of Rochester and the Genesee Finger Lakes region.

Division Organization

The Office of Energy & Sustainability program areas include city facilities compliance, energy, sustainability, NYSERDA projects, greenhouse gas emissions/climate action plan, regional planning, select brownfield projects and related grants.

The Office of Environmental Remediation program areas include site assessment, investigates, remedial actions, site operations and monitoring, tax delinquent brownfields, institutional control system and related grants.
