Located in the East End District of downtown Rochester and adjacent to the Strong Museum, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Park (formally Manhattan Square Park) is a popular gathering place. After renovations were completed in 2008, the year-round park has been the busy home to a wide range of visitors from families from throughout the region to downtown workers on their lunch breaks.

Rink Opening has opened for the season on Saturday January 9th,2021.  Mask/Face covering ,social distancing and tempeature checks will be required at all times.  Capacity is limited inside the building, so patrons are encouraged to come prepared and fully dresses for outdoor skating.  Customers are highly recommended to bring their own skates whenever possible.  

 Winter: The outdoor ice skating rink boasts a kidney-shaped surface that is 30 percent larger than the original rink. Patrons can enjoy an expanded warming shelter(limited capacity) that features a heated floor and fireplace, new rental skates and a sound and lighting system. (See 2020-2021 skating season schedule and rates below) 

Summer: In the warmer months, the ice rink doubles as a reflecting pool equipped with three fountains. The colorful playground provides a water spray park to cool children off from the summer heat. Benches and picnic tables around the rink serve as picnic spots during the summer. The warming shelter is available for rental from April-October

Capacity of the ice rink will be limited to 100 skaters per session beginning January 28th,2021 as the orange and yellow zone have been lifted by Gov. Cuomo.  There will be only Open Skate this season with no Adult Skate or Special Events at the rink.

Adults: $3

Skate Sharpening:  $5 
Ice Bike Rental: $10 per 60 minute session  

Special Events 

There will be not be any special events on the rink this season(2021)

Parking for the MLK Ice Rink available at the Strong Museum garage

The Strong Museum parking garage is open to non-museum guest for $5 (future pricing may vary). Please note that the garage closes 1 hour after open skate ends (10 p.m. Monday - Saturday and 8 p.m. on Sunday). Additionally, skaters who park in the garage after the museum has closed will need to call the museum security at 410-6300 to have them unlock the pedestrian door to enter the garage.


 Renting the Facility During Skating Season will not occur this season.
