Information About Registered Sex Offenders in New York State

The Rochester Police Department (RPD) is committed to providing the community access to legally obtainable information relating to sex offenders who reside in the City of Rochester. The Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is the central repository for information relating to registered sex offenders residing in New York State. The RPD works in conjunction with DCJS to ensure sex offenders comply with requirements relating to New York State Corrections Law 168. Sex offenders have designated levels assigned to them by a Board of Examiners. The designated levels are based on the risk of committing another sex crime and potential harm to the community. There are three levels of designation: Level 1 (Low), Level 2 (Moderate) and Level 3 (High). Sex offender designation is determined either at the time of sentencing (probation cases) or at the time of release from jail or prison.
