Who Can Be Married at City Hall?

  • Couples, age 18 and over, possessing a valid New York State marriage license can be married by the City Clerk in City Hall generally during regular business hours, by appointment.  
  • Civil ceremonies are usually available Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.  City Hall can only accommodate small groups of guests for a civil ceremony.
  • To schedule a civil ceremony, call the City Clerk's Office at (585) 428-7421.  Use of the Atrium cannot be scheduled in advance - it's availability varies from day-to-day. 

Ceremony Fee

As of July 2, 2018: $75, cash, check or credit card (with the exception of American Express). Please make checks payable to the "City of Rochester."

Taking Photos in City Hall

If you are married by the City Clerk on a weekday, the Clerk's Office can let you know if the Atrium will be available for the ceremony itself or for photos afterward on the day of the ceremony.

If you are getting married off site on a Saturday but would like to take your wedding photos at City Hall, you must obtain a permit from the Special Events Office. Learn more about the Atrium permit, scheduling, and policy.
